Currently | No. 1

So, this is the first one in a series called "currently". The aim is simple and fun - a list of 5 things I am enjoying at the moment using the 5 senses as a theme. It will cover things that inspire me lately, what I've been enjoying and / or links to cool stuff I've come across that you may enjoy too. It will serve as a type of collection of bits of inspiration for me to look back on, and perhaps inspire you as well. SIGHT | Really enjoyed reading this article about mindful colouring in. The opening quote of the article: "Everyone is given a box of crayons in kindergarten. Then when you hit puberty they take the crayons away and replace them with dry, uninspiring books on algebra, history, etc. Being suddenly hit years later with the ‘creative bug’ is just a wee voice telling you, ‘I’d like my crayons back, please.’” - Hugh MacLeod, “Ignore Everybody”

SOUND | Listened to this episode on the Crossway podcast with Ruth Chou Simons on Faith, Family and the Creative Life. Hearing her describe her art as a way to adorn the gospel with her paints and brushes has been something that's made me reflect on the purpose of my art and creativity.

TOUCH | I have been watching way too many pottery throwing videos lately so playing with air dry clay with my two young children has been fun. It's a lovely change in medium if I feel like trying something else instead of painting.

TASTE | Had a cinnamon doughnut the other day, and man, it was so heavenly. Such a simple sweet treat, but be warned, not all cinnamon doughnuts are made the same. Love it when the sugar to cinnamon ratio is just right, and the doughnut is light and fluffy (not oily!).

SMELL | Vanilla chai tea has been a favourite of mine for a while. It has such a sweet, yet subtle spicy aroma. It's a delicious evening hot drink that's cosy and a delight to enjoy when I'm painting.
