Handwritten notes seem to be a lost art form in our digital age. While I do love the convenience of sending a quick text, I think taking the time to pick an artful greeting card and sitting down to write a personalised message is such a lovely and kind act.
If you struggle with knowing what to write, here's a simple formula to write a thoughtful message in your greeting card. I almost didn’t share this because it actually feels a little too common sense, if you know what I mean? Perhaps you’re in need of some inspiration of what to write in your greeting cards or maybe you've forgotten about having a greeting card to pair with your gift, then learn my simple formula for thoughtfully writing a greeting card note so you'll be able to personalise all your gifts.
Simple Formula = Address + Occasion Greeting + Wish + Personal Note + Sign Off
Here's a helpful birthday card example to get your creative juices flowing
+ address the person: 'dear Carla'
+ wish them with an appropriate occasion greeting: ‘happy, happy birthday to you!’
+ add a wish / prayer for the occasion: ‘may the year ahead sparkle as brightly as you do’
+ include a fond memory / inside joke / Bible verse / music lyric / quote (this obviously depends on your relationship and the sensitivity of the occasion such as sending your condolences): ‘almost as bright as the birthday cake with all the candles we need to light for your age'
+ sign off: ‘with lots of love from your favourite sister, Alyssa’
It doesn't have to be more complicated than that. Cherish a loved one through your thoughtful words and encourage meaningful connections with them on a special (or, any!) ocassion!
